The following guidelines are provided to help us to help you get the most from your health care experience at TienaHealth.

The Triage department provides a variety of patient services, including prescription refills and various medical questions. Triage staff is available to answer your calls 7:00 am – 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. If you are calling about a matter that is not urgent, please allow 24 hours for a response. If your call is urgent, we will do our best to ensure that you receive an answer before 5:00 on the same day. At times, the staff may recommend that you make an appointment with your provider so that you receive the appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

Our providers are on call after hours to handle medical issues only. If you call after hours, you are given the option to leave a message for the on call provider. Please do not leave messages about prescription refills or appointments. If you are experiencing any of the following problems, go to the emergency room or call 911:

  • Difficulty breathing (choking, stopped breathing, weak breathing, noisy breathing, blue)
  • Possible anaphylaxis (difficulty breathing or swallowing following medicine, bee stings, eating)
  • Neurologic symptoms
(seizure, loss of consciousness, hard to waken, confusion, worst headache of my life)
  • Poisoning, ingestion, or drug overdose
  • Trauma to the neck or eye
  • Uncontrollable bleeding
  • Suicide threats or attempts and rape or abuse
  • Fever in an infant younger than 3 months
  • Fever greater than 104.5 F
  • Inconsolable crying
  • Chest pain
  • Severe pain
  • Near drowning
  • Penetrating wounds
  • Extreme anxiety
  • Head trauma with behavior change or recurrent vomiting
  • Purple or blood-colored rash

To reach the on call provider, call our main number at 972-443-5300 and leave a message which will trigger the phone system to page the provider. If you have a medical emergency, please call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency room. If you are not sure if you should go to the emergency room or other urgent care facility, or if you can wait to be seen at TienaHealth, our providers can advise you. We can also give you general advice about treating symptoms.

Our commitment to you is to provide the highest quality of health care. We believe that providing treatment by prescribing without seeing the patient is neither responsible nor high quality health care. For example, your four year old child has a temperature of 104? and is pulling at his ear. You’ve been through this before and are sure that he has another ear infection. You want to get him started on antibiotics right away. While he may have an ear infection, as a responsible health care provider, we have to consider all of the possibilities, including those that are potentially life threatening. In our example, the possibilities would include meningitis. On the other hand, he might have an ear infection that does not need antibiotics. Prescribing antibiotics needlessly puts patients at risk of allergic reactions and bad side effects. It also contributes to the serious and increasing problem of antibiotic resistance. Our ability to make a correct diagnosis depends on the informati on we can only obtain by touching the patient. Please understand that our goal in not prescribing over the telephone is the patient’s well being and safety.

    Prescription Refills

Our goal is to make sure that you never run out of your medication while ensuring that you receive the appropriate follow-up and monitoring. Please call your pharmacy, not the office, 3-4 days before you run out of medication. The following guidelines may help you to understand how often you should be seen when on various medications or for certain conditions.

    is started
    Diabetes Every 3-6 months
Hypertension At least every 6 months
    Cholesterol problems Every 3-6 months
Thyroid problems Every 3-6 months until labs are normal
Hormones At least yearly but more often until labs are normal
Allergy Yearly if well controlled on medicines
Depression and anxiety At least every 6 months, more often when treatment

And don’t forget your annual physical!

    Triplicate Prescription Requests

Please provide one week’s notice for a new triplicateprescription for controlled substances, such as Adderall and Ritalin.

    Controlled Substances

Controlled substances cannot be refilled over the phone and require a follow-up visit. Substances are designated as controlled because they carry a higher risk of side effects and dependence. Examples of controlled substances are medications with codeine, Xanax (alprazolam), Klonopin (clonazepam), Ambien, and Sonata.
