Trouble
It is NOT about how you feel. It's about what's going on inside your body.
Our body can be crying for help. But if we don't pay attention and neglect our body, our health will be in TROUBLE and it may be too late.
You must "know your numbers" to know where your body is in good shape and where you need to give it attention through lifestyle changes and sometimes medications.
Work with your doctor to help you learn and understand these numbers. If you don't have a doctor, please call the TIENAHEALTH Center to work with you.
T is for TRAINING. This is your activity level and one way to measure this is by the number of steps you take each day. The easiest way to do this is using a pedometer or step counter.
R is for ROUNDNESS. One way to find this out is using your Body Mass Index or BMI. You can measure this by dividing your weight by your height.
O is for OIL. This is the fats in your blood and is measured by a member of your healthcare team. The numbers you need to know are your LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglycerides.
U is UNACCEPTABLE BLOOD SUGAR. One number to measure this can be the sugar in your blood first thing in the morning, before you eat. This is your Fasting Blood Sugar. Another way to measure this is for your healthcare team to test your HbA1c. This gives an average of what your blood sugar has been for the past 3 months.
B is for BLOOD PRESSURE. This measures the pressure inside your blood vessels. To know this number you will need to have your blood pressure tested. You will want to know the top number (systolic blood pressure) and also the difference between the top number and the bottom number (pulse pressure).
L is for LOUSY HABITS. Do you now or did you ever use tobacco products.
E is for EXPLODING PLAQUE. This can be the result of having numbers in the other areas in the “Caution”, “Warning”, or “Danger” level. If any of your numbers are at this level, go to your doctor immediately and make positive lifestyle changes to get your health in control.
As you learn and understand each of your six numbers, circle your number on this chart to help you see if you health is in good shape or if you are in trouble. If any of your numbers are at the "caution" level or below, work with your doctor to get these numbers in the "good" range.
