Skin Care FAQ
Acne
A common skin care problem is teenage and adult onset acne. Children and teenagers can be very sensitive about their looks because their peers put so much emphasis on their skin and appearance. The impact of this can be seen in their behavior, social life and ultimately their grades. Frequently, adults may suffer from low self-esteem due to acne scarring.
The psychological benefit resulting from these treatments can change the path of a person’s life. With today’s technology, you don’t have to be born beautiful or have genetically perfect skin. Even with today’s hectic lifestyle, you can have healthy smooth skin.

TRUE or FALSE?
There are many misconceptions about effective skin care. People have spent thousands of dollars on products and procedures that don’t work. In truth, there are only a few things you need to know to select the skin treatments that are best for you. They are:
- What are the products’ ingredients?
- What type of skin are they designed for?
- What are the intended results?
- How long will it take to see positive improvement?
Most people do not have the time to research all of these things before they purchase a product. Remember, the girl behind the cosmetic counter is a sales person who does not have the benefit of clinical training in the physiology of the skin.
However, a licensed skin professional can help you select a treatment program that will be most effective for you.
SKIN CARE PROGRAMS
Skin care programs are as unique and as special as the individual. The home skin care regimen is a vital part to obtaining your desired results. You can buy all of the expensive makeup in the world --- but if your skin is healthy, you will no longer need makeup to cover imperfections.
Advanced treatments such as LASERs, chemical exfoliation, microdermabrasion, and many others are available to speed up the rejuvenation of your skin. Because of the advancements in technology, improvements in your skin can be achieved in a very short time frame, often with no down time or discomfort.
If you are looking for a way to turn back time with a younger, more attractive appearance, or suffer from:
- acne
- sun-damage
- uneven pigmentation
- scarring
- under eye circles
- wrinkles
- Rosacea
Sunblock or Sunscreen, what is the difference?
Sun Protection Factor (SPF) gives you some idea of how long you can stay in the sun without burning. For example, if you normally burn in 10 minutes without sun-screen and you've applied a liberal dose of sun-screen with a SPF of 15 you should be protected from sunburn for 150 minutes. A water-resistant rating is given if that same sun-screen, after being applied to a person who is submerged in moving water for four 20 minute intermissions, still tests at the same SPF.
Sun-screens have efficient absorbtion capabilities through the UVB, and partly the UVA portion of the spectrum. These must be applied 30 minutes prior to going outside to activate them. Once the chemicals have absorb their limit, the sun-screen ceases to be effective.
Sun-blocks, on the other hand, not only absorbs but also scatters the sun's rays. These are made out of titanium dioxide adn zinc oxide. A new class of physical blockers, micronized reflecting powders, are less visible, yet provide broad-spectrum protection against UV rays. 80% of the visible signs of aging is due to sun exposure. Because radiation is cumulative, walking to the mailbox, getting in your car, sitting by the window all count. Unprotected exposure is like sitting in a time machine on fast forward! The excellent prescription skin care products on the market today can substancially reverse sun-damage over a period of time, and the new clinical treatments can give virtually overnight results, so it is important to protect your investment.
